Life Is Too Short for Unnecessary Divisions: The Wisdom of Choosing Peace
Life has a way of putting things into perspective. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a health scare, or simply the realization that another year has passed in the blink of an eye, we eventually come to terms with a fundamental truth: our time here is limited.
We do not live in a society with unlimited time and space. The days are finite. The energy we have to give is finite. And yet, so much of that precious energy is spent on things that, in the grand scheme, do not matter.
The Exhaustion of Division
Every day, we are bombarded with reasons to be divided. We are sorted by politics, religion, lifestyle choices, and petty disagreements. We are encouraged to see "the other side" as the enemy.
But let’s be honest: daily survival already demands enough energy.
Between earning a living, maintaining a home, raising children, caring for aging parents, and simply trying to stay healthy, the average person is already running on fumes. When you add unnecessary conflict to that mix—holding grudges, fueling arguments with strangers online, or harboring hate for people you’ve never met—you are essentially pouring your limited fuel onto a fire that keeps you cold.
Why waste it on hate?
Hate is expensive. It costs you sleep. It raises your blood pressure. It steals joy from your present moment. And for what? To prove a point? To feel "right"?
Peace Is Not Weakness
There is a common misconception that choosing peace means surrendering. It means you are a pushover. It means you don't care enough to fight.
But choosing peace is not passive; it is an active, intentional decision. It takes far more strength to walk away from a fight than to stay and throw punches. It takes more intelligence to find common ground than to dig trenches.
Choosing peace is not weakness; it’s wisdom.
It is the wisdom to know that your energy is a non-renewable resource. Every moment you spend seething with anger is a moment you are not spending laughing with a friend, enjoying a sunset, or working toward a goal that actually matters to you.
The Art of Letting Go
To live a full life, we must learn the art of letting go. Let go of the need to win every argument. Let go of the belief that everyone must think exactly like you. Let go of the divisions that serve no purpose other than to keep you separate.
We are all just people, trying to make it through a complicated world. The person you disagree with politically is also trying to figure out their life. The person who cut you off in traffic is likely stressed about something you know nothing about.
Extend grace. Not for them, but for yourself. You don't have the time or space to carry the weight of unnecessary hate.
Life is too short to be divided. It is too short to be angry. It is too short to waste.
Spend your energy on love. Spend it on growth. Spend it on peace.
